Ingredients

– 2 ½ cups plain flour
– 2 cups sugar
– 1 teaspoon baking soda
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
– 1 ½ cups vegetable oil
– 1 cup buttermilk
– 2 large eggs
– 2 tablespoons red food colouring
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method

1. Preheat your oven to 180°C. Grease and flour two round cake pans.
2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt and cocoa powder.
3. Add the oil, buttermilk, eggs, food colouring and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Beat until smooth and well combined.
4. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
5. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
