Ingredients
- 1 cup red gram dal
- 4 cups water
- 1 large tomato, chopped
- 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 tablespoon oil
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Method
- Rinse the red gram dal under cold water until the water runs clear.
- In a pot, combine dal and 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then simmer until the dal is soft.
- Add chopped tomatoes, tamarind paste, turmeric powder, green chilies, and salt. Stir well and cook for 10 minutes.
- In a separate pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds. Wait until they start to pop, then pour this mixture over the dal mixture.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
