Delicious Karwar Style Dali Thoy: Easy Toor Dal Curry Recipe

Ingredients

– 1 cup toor dal (split pigeon peas)
– 3 cups water
– 1 tablespoon oil
– 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
– 1 teaspoon urad dal (split black gram)
– 1-2 green chilies, chopped
– 1 small onion, chopped
– 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
– Salt, to taste
– 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Method

1. Rinse the toor dal under cold water until it runs clear. This removes any dirt or impurities.
2. Place the rinsed dal in a pot with 3 cups of water. Cook on medium heat until it becomes soft, which takes about 20-25 minutes. Stir occasionally.
3. Heat oil in a frying pan. Add mustard seeds and wait for them to pop. Once they start popping, add urad dal and green chilies. Stir-fry for a minute.
4. Add chopped onion to the pan. SautƩ until it turns golden brown. Add turmeric powder and salt to the mixture.
5. Combine the cooked dal with the onion mixture. Stir well and add lemon juice just before serving.
