Ingredients
– 500 g all-purpose flour
– 1 packet instant yeast (about 7 g)
– 1 cup warm water (about 240 ml)
– 2 tablespoons brown sugar
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1/4 cup baking soda
– 1 egg
– Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)
– 1 cup cheese (shredded)
– 1/2 cup milk
Method
1. Start by mixing the warm water, brown sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Allow it to sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
2. Combine the flour and salt in another bowl. Gradually add the yeast mixture to the flour, stirring until a dough forms.
3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place it in a greased bowl and cover with a towel. Let it rise for 30 minutes.
4. Preheat the oven to 220°C. Boil water in a pot and add baking soda. Divide the dough into pieces and shape them into pretzels.
5. Boil pretzels in the soda water for about 30 seconds, then place on a baking sheet. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Melt cheese with milk in a saucepan for dipping.
