Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 sachet dry yeast
  • 3 cups plain flour
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds (optional)

Method

  1. In a large bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add salt, olive oil, and flour to the yeast mixture. Combine until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour until it doubles in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 220°C. Shape the dough into small baguettes, place them on a baking tray, and brush with beaten egg. If desired, sprinkle sesame seeds on top. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
