Ingredients
2 cups white rice
4 cups water
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons butter or oil
1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
1 teaspoon onion powder (optional)
1 bay leaf (optional)
Method
1. First, rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming sticky.
2. Next, combine the rinsed rice, water, salt, and butter or oil in a saucepan. If using garlic powder, onion powder, or a bay leaf, add them too.
3. Turn the heat to high and bring the mixture to a rolling boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low.
4. Cover the pot with a lid and let it simmer for about 18 minutes. Do not lift the lid during cooking.
5. After 18 minutes, remove the pot from the heat and let it sit, covered, for another 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork before serving.
