Karnataka-Style Rice Bath Recipe: A Flavorful One-Pot Meal

Ingredients

– 2 cups of rice
– 1 cup of mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, and beans)
– 1 onion, chopped
– 2 tomatoes, chopped
– 1 teaspoon of ginger-garlic paste
– 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds
– 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
– 1-2 green chilies, slit
– 500 ml of water
– Salt to taste

Method

1. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.
2. Heat a large pot over medium heat and add a splash of oil. When hot, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds.
3. Once the seeds start to splutter, sauté the chopped onion until it becomes translucent. Add ginger-garlic paste and green chilies, cooking for a few minutes.
4. Stir in the chopped tomatoes and mixed vegetables. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
5. Add the rinsed rice and water to the pot. Season with salt and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer until the rice is cooked and water is absorbed.
