Ingredients
– 1 cup toor dal (split pigeon peas)
– 1 tsp salt
– 2 cups water
– 1 tsp turmeric powder
– 1 onion, chopped
– 2 green chilies, slit
– 1 cup tomatoes, chopped
– 1 tsp cumin seeds
– 2 tbsp oil
– Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Method
1. Rinse the toor dal under water until it runs clear. Soak it for about 30 minutes.
2. Drain the soaked dal, then blend it to a coarse paste with some salt.
3. Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle. Then, add chopped onions and green chilies. Sauté until the onions become golden.
4. Stir in the chopped tomatoes and turmeric powder. Cook until the mixture turns soft.
5. Add the dal paste and water, stirring well. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
