Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups plain flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground cloves
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- ½ cup golden syrup
Method
1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Line two baking trays with parchment paper.
2. Mix the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt in a bowl. Set it aside.
3. In another bowl, beat the softened butter and brown sugar together until creamy. Add the egg and golden syrup, then mix until well combined.
4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until it forms a dough. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for 30 minutes.
5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 5mm thick. Cut into shapes and place them on the prepared trays. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned.
