Ingredients

– 1 cup broken wheat (dalia)
– 2 cups water
– 1 tablespoon oil or ghee
– 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
– 1 small onion, chopped
– 1 small tomato, chopped
– 1 small carrot, grated (optional)
– Salt to taste
– Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish)
– Lemon juice (to taste, optional)

Method

1. Heat oil or ghee in a pressure cooker over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
2. Add chopped onion and sauté until it becomes golden brown. Then, mix in the chopped tomato and cook until soft.
3. Stir in the grated carrot, salt, and broken wheat. Mix thoroughly for a minute.
4. Pour in the water and close the pressure cooker lid. Cook on high heat until it reaches full pressure, then reduce to low and cook for about 2 whistles.
5. Once the pressure is released, open the lid. Fluff the dalia with a fork. Serve hot, garnished with coriander leaves and a dash of lemon juice if you like.
