Ingredients
– 1 cup unsalted butter
– 1 cup brown sugar, packed
– ½ cup granulated sugar
– ¼ cup water
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
– ½ teaspoon salt
– 2 cups chocolate chips
– 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
– 1 cup toffee bits (optional)
Method
1. Preheat the oven to 180°C and line a baking tray with baking paper.
2. In a medium saucepan, combine the butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, water, and salt. Heat over medium until the mixture boils.
3. Stir continuously for about 10 minutes until the mixture turns a golden caramel color.
4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Quickly pour the toffee onto the prepared baking tray, spreading it evenly.
5. While the toffee is still warm, sprinkle the chocolate chips on top. Let the heat melt the chocolate, then spread it evenly. If desired, add nuts and toffee bits on top. Allow to cool before breaking into pieces.
