Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 100 g cold butter, cubed
  • 1 cup sourdough starter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp milk

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt together.
  3. Add the cold butter. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to combine until it looks like crumbs.
  4. Stir in the sourdough starter, vanilla extract, and the egg until just mixed. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  5. Scoop the dough onto the baking tray. Shape into scones and brush with milk. Bake for 15–20 minutes until golden.
