Sourdough Chocolate Babka Recipe
Ingredients
– 500 g strong bread flour
– 250 ml milk
– 100 g sugar
– 10 g salt
– 7 g instant yeast
– 100 g unsalted butter, melted
– 2 large eggs
– 100 g cocoa powder
– 150 g chocolate chips
– 1 egg (for egg wash)
Method
1. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast.
2. Combine the melted butter, milk, and eggs in a separate bowl. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients, then stir until a dough forms.
3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for around 10 minutes until smooth. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a cloth. Let it rise in a warm area for 1 hour.
4. After the dough has doubled in size, roll it out into a rectangle. Sprinkle cocoa powder and chocolate chips evenly on top. Roll the dough up tightly.
5. Cut the rolled dough in half lengthwise, twist the two pieces together, and place them in a loaf pan. Brush with a beaten egg and allow to rise for another 30 minutes before baking.
