Ingredients
500 g apples, peeled and sliced
100 g sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tbsp lemon juice
250 g all-purpose flour
125 g unsalted butter, cold and cubed
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 cup water, ice-cold
1 egg, beaten
1 tbsp sugar for topping
Method
1. Begin by preheating the oven to 190°C (375°F).
2. Combine apples, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice in a bowl. Stir well and let it sit while making the crust.
3. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add cold butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to blend until it resembles coarse crumbs.
4. Gradually add ice-cold water, mixing until a dough forms. Roll out half on a floured surface to fit a baking dish.
5. Pour the apple mixture into the crust and cover it with the remaining rolled-out dough. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle sugar on top. Bake for 45 minutes or until golden brown.
