Delicious Shaker Apple Pie Recipe: A Classic Dessert Delight

Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
6 tablespoons cold water
6 cups sliced apples (mix of tart and sweet)
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1 tablespoon butter, cut into pieces
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Method
Start by mixing the flour and salt in a large bowl.
Add the chilled butter to the bowl and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to combine until it resembles coarse crumbs.
Stir in cold water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough forms. Divide the dough in half, wrap in plastic, and chill for about an hour.
While the dough chills, combine the sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice in another bowl. Toss everything to coat the apples evenly.
Preheat the oven to 220°C. Roll out one half of the dough on a floured surface and place it in a pie dish. Fill with the apple mixture, dot with butter, then roll out the second half of the dough to cover the top. Seal the edges and cut slits for steam. Brush the top with the beaten egg. Bake for 45 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
