Delicious Persian Taftan Recipe: A Step-By-Step Guide

Ingredients

500g plain flour
7g dry yeast
250ml warm water
100ml milk
50ml vegetable oil
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 egg
Sesame seeds (for topping)

Method

1. Combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until foamy.
2. In a large mixing bowl, add the flour and salt. Pour in the yeast mixture, milk, and vegetable oil. Mix until a dough forms.
3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth. Place it in a greased bowl and cover with a cloth. Let it rise for 1 hour in a warm place until it doubles in size.
4. Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a round flatbread and place on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
5. Brush the tops with beaten egg and sprinkle sesame seeds on each one. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
