Ingredients
1 cup red lentils
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 medium onion, chopped
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon grated ginger
1 teaspoon ground turmeric
1 teaspoon garam masala
2 cups vegetable broth
Salt to taste
Fresh cilantro for garnish
Method
Rinse the red lentils in cold water and drain them thoroughly.
Heat the vegetable oil in a pot over medium heat.
Add the cumin seeds and once they start sizzling, add the chopped onion. Cook until the onion turns golden brown.
Stir in the garlic, ginger, turmeric, and garam masala. Cook for a few more minutes until fragrant.
Pour in the vegetable broth and lentils. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until the lentils are soft. Add salt to taste. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
