Delicious Kerala Cherupayar Curry: Easy Green & Yellow Moong Dal Recipe

Ingredients

– 1 cup green moong dal
– 1/2 cup yellow moong dal
– 1 tablespoon coconut oil
– 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
– 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
– 1 medium onion, chopped
– 2 green chilies, slit
– 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1 cup coconut milk

Method

1. Rinse both types of moong dal in water until it runs clear.
2. Boil the lentils in 4 cups of water until tender, which usually takes around 20 minutes.
3. Heat coconut oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add mustard and cumin seeds. Wait until they start to pop.
4. Stir in chopped onions and green chilies. Cook the mixture until onions become soft.
5. Mix in turmeric, salt, boiled lentils, and coconut milk. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes before serving.
