Ingredients
– 4 large eggs
– 1/2 cup sugar
– 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
– 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
– 2 cups milk
– 1 cup heavy cream
– 1/2 cup rum or brandy (optional)
– Extra ground nutmeg for serving
Method
1. Start by cracking the eggs into a large bowl. Add the sugar and whisk until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy.
2. Stir in the vanilla extract and ground nutmeg to combine well.
3. In a saucepan, heat the milk and heavy cream over medium heat until it starts to simmer. Remove it from the heat.
4. Slowly pour the warm milk mixture into the egg mixture, whisking constantly to avoid cooking the eggs.
5. If desired, add the rum or brandy. Chill the eggnog in the fridge for at least two hours before serving. Sprinkle extra nutmeg on top before enjoying.
