Ingredients
– 6 large eggs
– 3/4 cup sugar
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
– 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
– 2 cups milk
– 1 cup thickened cream
– 1/2 cup rum (optional)
– Ground cinnamon (for serving)
– Whipped cream (for serving)
– Extra nutmeg (for garnish)
Method
1. Start by separating the egg yolks from the whites. Place the yolks into a mixing bowl and beat them with the sugar until the mixture turns light and fluffy.
2. Add the vanilla extract and ground nutmeg to the yolk mixture. Mix well to combine everything evenly.
3. In a saucepan over medium heat, gently warm the milk and thickened cream until it’s hot, but not boiling. Then, slowly pour this warm mixture into the yolk mixture while continuously whisking.
4. If using rum, stir it in at this point. Next, cover the bowl and refrigerate the eggnog until it’s chilled, about 2 hours.
5. To serve, pour the chilled eggnog into glasses, top with whipped cream, sprinkle with ground cinnamon and nutmeg. Enjoy!
