Ingredients
– 2 cups of basmati rice
– 4 cups of water
– 4 tablespoons of ghee
– 1 onion, thinly sliced
– 2 green chilies, slit
– 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
– 4 cloves
– 2 cardamom pods
– 1 small cinnamon stick
– Salt to taste
Method
1. Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain it well and set it aside.
2. Melt the ghee in a large pot over medium heat, then add the sliced onion. Cook for about 5 minutes until the onion is golden brown.
3. Stir in the green chilies, cumin seeds, cloves, cardamom pods, and cinnamon stick. Sauté the spices for 1 minute to release their aroma.
4. Add the drained rice to the pot and gently mix it with the spices for about a minute.
5. Pour in the water and add salt. Bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat. Cover the pot and let it simmer for 15 minutes or until the rice is cooked through.
