Ingredients
500 g plain flour
1 tbsp baking powder
100 g cold unsalted butter, diced
100 g sugar
1 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 egg
A pinch of salt
Method
Start by preheating the oven to 220°C (428°F).
Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
Add the cold butter and sugar, then rub them together until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
Pour in the milk and vanilla, then gently combine until a dough forms.
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and pat it down to about 2.5 cm thick. Cut into rounds and place on a baking tray. Brush with beaten egg and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden.
