Ingredients
– 4 medium green tomatoes
– 1 cup plain flour
– 1 teaspoon salt
– ½ teaspoon black pepper
– 2 large eggs
– 1 cup buttermilk
– 1 cup cornmeal
– Oil for frying
– Optional: hot sauce for serving
Method
1. Slice the green tomatoes into about 1 cm thick rounds.
2. Combine flour, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
3. In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs and buttermilk.
4. Place cornmeal in a shallow dish.
5. Dip each tomato slice first in the flour mixture, then in the egg mixture, and finally in the cornmeal. Fry them in hot oil until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
