Ingredients
– 1 cup chana dal (split chickpeas)
– 3 cups water
– 1 medium onion, chopped
– 2 medium tomatoes, chopped
– 2 green chilies, slit
– 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
– 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
– 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
– 1 tablespoon oil
– Salt, to taste
Method
1. Rinse the chana dal under cold water until the water runs clear.
2. In a pot, combine the chana dal and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 30 minutes or until soft.
3. Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds, and once they splutter, add the chopped onion and green chilies. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
4. Stir in the ginger, turmeric, and tomatoes. Cook until the tomatoes are soft, then season with salt.
5. Pour the cooked chana dal into the pan. Mix well and let it cook together for another 5 minutes.
