Ingredients
– 250 ml buttermilk
– 2 cups sugar
– 3 cups plain flour
– 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
– 4 large eggs
– 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
– 1 teaspoon baking soda
– 1 teaspoon baking powder
– 0.5 teaspoon salt
– 1 cup cocoa powder
Method
1. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Grease and flour two round cake pans.
2. Beat the softened butter and sugar together in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Include the vanilla extract.
4. Combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder in another bowl. Gradually add this mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk.
5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Allow the cakes to cool before frosting.
