Ingredients
– 400 g ziti pasta
– 1 tablespoon olive oil
– 1 onion, chopped
– 2 garlic cloves, minced
– 800 g canned crushed tomatoes
– 1 teaspoon dried oregano
– 500 g ricotta cheese
– 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
– 1 cup grated parmesan cheese
– Salt and pepper to taste
Method
1. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Boil salted water in a large pot and cook the ziti according to package instructions. Drain when done.
2. Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Sauté the chopped onion for about 5 minutes until soft. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
3. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir in dried oregano. Season with salt and pepper, and let the sauce simmer for 10 minutes.
4. Combine the cooked ziti with the sauce in a large bowl. Mix in the ricotta cheese until well combined.
5. Spread half of the pasta mixture into a baking dish. Top with half of the mozzarella and parmesan. Repeat this with the remaining pasta and cheeses. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.
