Delicious Andhra Style Sorakaya Kura: Bottle Gourd & Toor Dal Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 medium bottle gourd, peeled and diced
  • 1 cup toor dal (split pigeon peas)
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 2 green chillies, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 cups water

Method

  1. Wash the toor dal under running water until it becomes clear.
  2. Combine the dal and 2 cups of water in a pot. Cook until the dal is soft.
  3. In a separate pan, heat the oil over medium heat and add mustard and cumin seeds.
  4. When the seeds start to pop, stir in the chopped green chillies and grated ginger. Cook for a minute.
  5. Add the diced bottle gourd, turmeric powder, and salt. Stir well and cover. Cook until the gourd is tender.
