Celebrate Makara Sankranthi: Pongal And Lohri Festivities Explained

Ingredients

– 1 cup rice
– 4 cups water
– ½ cup split yellow lentils
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
– 2 tablespoons ghee
– ½ cup chopped onion
– ½ cup chopped tomatoes
– 2 green chilies, chopped
– ¼ cup coriander leaves, chopped

Method

1. Rinse the rice and lentils in cold water until the water runs clear.
2. In a large pot, combine the rice, lentils, and water. Bring to a boil.
3. Once boiling, add salt and turmeric powder. Reduce heat and cover the pot. Cook for about 20 minutes until the rice and lentils are tender.
4. In a separate pan, heat ghee over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until golden brown. Stir in the chopped tomatoes and green chilies.
5. After cooking, add the onion mixture to the rice and lentils. Stir gently and garnish with coriander leaves.
