Ingredients

– 1 cup red lentils
– 1 tablespoon oil
– 1 medium onion, chopped
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
– 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
– 1 medium tomato, chopped
– 1-2 green chilies, chopped
– 2 cups water
– Salt to taste

Method

1. Rinse the lentils under cold water until the water runs clear.
2. In a pot, heat oil over medium heat and add the chopped onion. Cook until it becomes translucent.
3. Add minced garlic, cumin seeds, and turmeric powder. Stir for a minute until fragrant.
4. Mix in the chopped tomato and green chilies. Cook until the tomato softens.
5. Add the lentils and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 20 minutes until lentils are soft. Add salt to taste.
