Ingredients

– 4 medium green tomatoes
– 1 cup all-purpose flour
– 2 large eggs
– 1 cup cornmeal
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1 teaspoon black pepper
– 1 teaspoon garlic powder
– 1 cup oil for frying
– Optional: hot sauce for serving

Method

1. Slice the green tomatoes into 1cm thick rounds.
2. Set up a dredging station with one plate for flour, a bowl for beaten eggs, and another plate for cornmeal mixed with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
3. Dip each tomato slice into the flour, coating it well. Then, dip it into the eggs, and finally press it into the cornmeal mixture.
4. Heat oil in a large frying pan over medium heat until hot.
5. Fry the tomato slices for about 3-4 minutes on each side until they turn golden brown. Drain on paper towels and serve with hot sauce if desired.
