Method

1. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Grease a baking dish with butter.
2. Combine boiling water, chopped dates, and baking soda in a bowl. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
3. Beat softened butter and brown sugar in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla, mix well.
