Delicious Midhi Pavakkai Poriyal: Healthy Baby Bitter Gourd Recipe

Ingredients

– 500 g baby bitter melon (midhi pavakkai)
– 1 cup chopped onions
– 2 tablespoons oil
– 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
– 1/2 teaspoon urad dal (black gram)
– 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
– 1 teaspoon red chili powder
– Salt to taste
– Fresh curry leaves (a handful)
– 2 tablespoons grated coconut

Method

1. Start by washing and chopping the baby bitter melon into thin slices. Soak them in water for 10 minutes to reduce bitterness.
2. Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the mustard seeds and let them crackle.
3. Toss in the urad dal and curry leaves. Sauté for a minute until the dal turns golden.
4. Add the chopped onions to the pan. Cook until the onions become translucent.
5. Mix in the bitter melon slices, turmeric, red chili powder, and salt. Stir well and cook for about 10 minutes. Finally, garnish with grated coconut before serving.
