Ingredients

– 1 cup chana dal (split chickpeas)
– 3 cups water
– 1 medium onion, chopped
– 2 green chilies, slit
– 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
– 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
– 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
– 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
– 1 tablespoon oil
– Salt to taste

Method

1. Rinse the chana dal thoroughly in water and drain.
2. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat, then add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Wait for them to crackle.
3. Add chopped onions, green chilies, ginger, and garlic. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
4. Stir in the chana dal and the water. Add salt, cover the pan, then cook until the dal is tender, about 20-25 minutes.
5. Once cooked, remove the lid and cook for a few more minutes to thicken if necessary.
